Homemade potato planter for walk-behind tractor: drawings, photos, video. The process of making a potato planter for a do-it-yourself motoblock Do-it-yourself potato planter

Planting potatoes (as well as digging) is not an easy task. For the sake of saving money, millions of homeowners bend their backs in their gardens twice a year.

If you cultivate a couple of hundredths, and even with the help of relatives - the task is feasible. And on a plot of a couple hectares to cope with such a volume of work is problematic.

To help farmers, a potato planter for a walk-behind tractor is offered, and with various capacities.

However, for the money that producers ask for, you can just buy potatoes in a supermarket for several seasons. The economic meaning of self-cultivation is lost. There is only one way out - to make agricultural machinery independently.

Important! It will not work at all without costs. To bring the mechanism into action you will need a traction device - a mini-tractor or walk-behind tractor. At worst, a horse, but that's another cost.

How to make a potato planter with your own hands: drawings, materials

In order to understand in detail the operation of the mechanism, we consider the drawings of a typical potato planter with additional functions: in our case, a hopper for adding fertilizers, sand or top dressing.

  • The basis of the mechanism is conveyor (1)  for feeding tubers into the ground. It is a chain with attached bucket grippers located at regular intervals. The distance between the buckets determines the density in the row.
  • Tubers are captured from hopper (5)  and served in the prepared furrow, which is formed bipod (4).
  • On the frame (3)  one more can be installed bunker (2)  for additional bed processing. The necessary material is poured into it, which is laid in the ground with the help of frontal bipods.
  • The frame is attached to a walk-behind tractor or tractor using a tow hitch.
  • The conveyor mechanism is driven by a support drive wheels (6). They must be equipped with developed lugs to prevent slipping.
  • The final stage - digging tubers and hilling beds. For this, in the back disc trowlers (7), a pair for each row.

This design in one form or another is used on factory models. A potato planter made according to this principle works flawlessly and with high productivity.

Depending on the power of the traction device, you can organize a two or four-row mechanism. In this case, the hopper is shared, or separate for each conveyor.

It is quite difficult to plant potatoes in a field or garden, so you can adapt a walk-behind tractor for these purposes, and build a potato planter for it with your own hands.

Collecting such equipment for planting tubers is not difficult. It can be automatic or work with human participation.

DIY potato planter for walk-behind tractor makes planting easier. In addition, this unit can evenly distribute potato tubers in the ground, which means that the quality and quantity of the crop will improve.

A potato planter is an indispensable equipment that you can assemble yourself.

Automatic potato planter

First, for an automatic potato planter, a frame of 8th channel channels is assembled.  A special plywood hopper for 15-20 kg of potatoes is attached to it, in which an elevator with special bowls of 5-8 cm in size is vertically fixed.

For this design to work, it is connected to the drive wheel using a chain drive.

Under the elevator, the sevnik tube is strengthened, which is pressed by the interceptor.

An asterisk mounted on this structure has a diameter of 8 cm, and an asterisk on a walk-behind tractor has a diameter of 16 cm.

Due to them, a chain transmission works, which can be made on the basis of a bicycle chain. Furthermore, the distance between the potatoes during planting is 35 cm.

Potato planter for walk-behind tractor and mini tractor

Another potato planter is a bit more complex in its parameters, but quite interesting in terms of technical design. The main objective of this equipment is to plant the tubers through the same distance to a certain depth and evenly cover them with earth.

This additional attachment is indispensable when planting potato tubers with a walk-behind tractor.

It may be single row, double row or multi row, depending on the design used in the assembly of the potato planter frame.

With the help of developed designs, it is possible to regulate the planting of tubers. Often such attachments are reinforced with additional mountings.

DIY potato planters are best used on pre-treated soil.

Such advanced designs allow you to quickly and efficiently plant potatoes of various sizes, while the distance between the tubers will be the same.

Depth of landing is also automatically adjusted.

This equipment can be used both on small household plots and on farm fields. His work is very effective and can help with planting not only potatoes, but also, with some conversion, other vegetables.

How to design a potato planter for walk-behind tractor

Before making a potato planter for a walk-behind tractor with your own hands, it is necessary to calculate all sizes by drawing up a drawing.

The basis of any unit is a frame on which all nodes are fixed. It is welded from pieces of a channel in the form of two longitudinal spars and three transverse strips of steel.

In front of the side members, an arch is welded that has a fastening fork with a central rod, two fixing fingers of the lower rod are also welded.

After that, the plate supports of the vas deferens and the posts of the sealing discs are strengthened on the sides of the frame.

The latter is strengthened by two trapezoidal overlays and kerchiefs of a 4 mm sheet of steel, having the form of a rectangular triangle.

A potato hopper is attached to the bracket in the form of a plate, which is screwed with two bolts. He himself is secured to two steel stripes mounted voskros.

How to assemble a bunker

To make a bunker for potatoes, you need to take plywood 1.2 cm thick, cut to size parts, prolify, then fasten with steel corners.

After that, it is necessary to cover the finished hopper with waterproof paint and install a rubber gasket inside so that the potatoes for planting are not damaged.

The axis is taken as a steel or cast-iron pipe having thick walls.

Spikes or pins are inserted into the ends of the pipe, which must be turned on a lathe.

Then, special holes are drilled in the pipe through which, after assembly, the pins holding the spikes are inserted.

When fully assembled, the pins must be welded.  The wheel axle is fastened with two steel clamps using four M 16 bolts.

Wheels, ripper holders and seeders

For to make potato planter wheels, several steel sheets are needed.  They will have to tinker a bit, but this will pay off when planting, as they are made in the form of wide cylinders that are not able to greatly compact the soil.

Hubs are welded onto the wheels, on which two bearings are mounted. Then the bearings are mounted on the spikes, and to prevent them from becoming contaminated, felt pads and special covers are used.

If you wish, you can not bother with the home-made production of wheels for a potato planter, but use rubber from agricultural units and machines.

To make the holder of the cultivators, a rod is welded in the form of a square of 2 corners with a size of 500x500x50 mm.

You can make a regular welded square, but it will be subject to twisting during operation.

At the ends of the rod, clips of pieces of steel sheet of 0.6 cm are welded, inside which racks of cultivator paws are installed. Moreover, the size of the cage, in their manufacture, should be selected so that the gap between the cage and the inserted stand of the cultivator paw does not exceed 1 millimeter.

In order to assemble the seeders for a potato planter, you will need a steel or cast-iron pipe with a diameter of 10 cm, with a wall thickness of at least 0.3 cm. This wall thickness is taken because it should not bend under the pressure of the earth.

A furrow cutter is welded to the pipe from below, which is made of a sheet of steel with a thickness of 0.6 cm.

To regulate the depth to which the furrow cutter should enter the ground, it is enough to loosen the ladders and, using vertical movements of the vas deferens along the frame supports, adjust its position.

After the depth of the groove cutters is adjusted, the fastening of the stepladders must be tightly tightened, as otherwise the vas deferens, due to significant soil loads on the groove cutters, can unfold during operation.

A small alteration will be required for the sealing discs, which were removed from the seeder СО-4,2, because there is only one 203 bearing on them. On each disk you need to grind the hub to a certain size.

After that, it is pressed into the housing, which after the bore already has the size of two 160503 bearings.

For new bearings, one side is closed, and on the other hand, the same seating size as that of removed bearings. The result is a compound into which neither dust nor dirt can get.

Some features of the potato planter

Since the potato planter itself has a fairly large weight, when installing it on a walk-behind tractor, it is necessary to install a counterweight in front, which will not allow the unit to lift its nose and provide good stability.

On the potato planter, a seat and footrests must be installed.

The frame for the seat is made of two welded corners, and the seat itself is made of boards, and then fitted with foam and leather.

The seatpost is attached to the side members with corners, and the footboard is also installed.

This equipment works as follows: potatoes are poured into the hopper, several more bags are placed on top so as not to run after the potatoes from one end of the field to the other.

Then the seeder sits in his place on the potato planter, and the driver behind the walk-behind tractor, and begins movement at a speed not exceeding 1 km per hour.

The seeder at the same time sends the tuber to the vas deferens on both sides, and so the planting is carried out.

When potatoes fall into the ground, they must be sprinkled with earth. For this purpose, the closing discs were designed, which during rotation shift the upper layer of the earth and fill up the potatoes.

The disks are designed so that they have a certain angle to the furrow and rotate when the potato planter moves, so the potato is backfilled with earth.

The device of the closing discs allows you to change the depth of the undercut of the formation in one of three options: a potato planter for a walk-behind tractor?

You can find out all about the biggest mining trucks.

An article has been prepared for you at the following address, which allows you to decide on the question of which cultivator to choose for the garden.

Using these three options, you can adjust the movement of the potato planter so that the actions of the closing discs are almost perfect. This is selected by the type of land on which the landing is made.

After the potatoes are planted at the same distance and buried with the help of sealing discs, there remains one more work that must be done.

On the field there are traces of a potato planter and walk-behind tractor that need to be removed. This is done using baking powder - cultivating paws on racks.

Here you can also adjust the depth of their landing in the ground by moving in racks vertically.  Their fixation is done with through fingers in the clips.

A video is presented to your attention, in which it is shown how a potato planter for a walk-behind tractor works, made by hand:

Spring has come, which means that it's time to cook potatoes for planting. It is believed that a potato planter is able to increase the productivity of the planting process by 10-20 times. This does not mean at all that this device requires a tractor or walk-behind tractor; potato planters can also be manual.

Such equipment is now a necessity, because cultivating fields and gardens in the age of high technology and automation with one's own hand is not the most rational task. We will figure out how to properly make a potato planter with our own hands, get acquainted with the drawings and dimensions of the devices and its components.

Manual

Potato is the most popular culture not only in our country, but throughout the world. It is nutritious, tasty, but difficult to plant.

But large fields should be cultivated using agricultural machinery. So for digging and planting potatoes on a plot of 10 acres, the farmer needs to process about 20 tons of land with his own hands. This work is commensurate with the unloading of the whole train. The easiest way to solve this unpleasant problem is to make a manual potato planter. This is a very simple device that almost everyone can do.

The hand-held device is a pipe (empty inside) with a hole at the top and a slide-type valve at the bottom. For a deeper understanding (including dimensions), we will study in detail the adaptation scheme.

The pipe should be cut at an angle from the bottom to form a sharp handle, the task of which is to plunge into the ground. The bevel contains a sliding type valve. The task of the valve is to open only at the moment when the tuber is already inside at the right depth.

To avoid different depths when landing, it is necessary to place a mark at the desired distance from the bevel. Such a mark can be a special flat device that rests on the ground and does not allow the pipe to move deeper. This is very convenient, because such a limiter allows you to deepen the tuber down, helping with your foot (like a shovel).

The upper part of the device is open, there may be a special container with potatoes and a dispenser that does not allow sending several pieces under the ground at once.

The practicality of the device is its most important characteristic. Many people try to make a potato planter compact, convenient and even work on its design. This is all important, but you should never forget about the main task of the device. The potato planter should not be large and heavy, so the pipe should be taken no more than a meter in length and always thin-walled.

It should be remembered that the pipe should easily withstand immersion in soil and pressure from the side of the chernozem, so the material must be very durable. Cooking it from a sheet of metal is not a good idea, because deformations cannot be avoided.

The valve is made of steel. Using a conventional door curtain, you can make the simplest hinge for mounting the valve. From a metal corner you can make a bandwagon.

After all the components and tools have been prepared, you should proceed to the direct assembly:

  1. Using an angle grinder (grinder) we cut the pipe at an angle, achieving optimal sharpening (the sharper the end of the pipe, the better it will go into the ground).
  2. We make a valve cover, which should close the pipe tight enough at the right time.
  3. We fix the hinge mechanism to the pipe body.
  4. At a distance of 200 mm from the tip of the pipe, using welding, we install a footboard (its length corresponds to the distances between the bushes that are expected in the future).
  5. Handles and a container for tubers must be attached to the pipe (do not install a huge container).

Important! To fix the handles, containers and footboards, avoid bolt fasteners, the most optimal in this matter is welding, since a significant load will be applied to all these components.

For walk-behind tractor

If you have a walk-behind tractor or you want to purchase one, then it makes sense to abandon a manual potato planter and go straight to the design of a device designed specifically for a walk-behind tractor. You should always start with the frame, as this is the basis on which all further components and units will be fixed. Channel bars (material - steel) of type 8 (size standard) are used for the frame.

Such a device is faced not only with the task of automating potato planting, but also ensuring the uniform distribution of bushes and closing them with the right amount of soil. In addition to facilitating labor, such a potato planter also improves the quality of planting.

Since the walk-behind tractor is designed for small equipment, it means that there are no special strength requirements for the bunker; you can use ordinary plywood 1 cm thick. The carrying capacity of such a device will be about 0.25-0.3 centners.

The part of the device in which the tubers will move is called a container. The main requirement for the container is the presence of an elevator, which is fixed vertically and equipped with special bowls with diameters of 50-80 mm. The work of the whole mechanism is carried out thanks to a chain transmission to the drive wheel. An elevator should be installed in the container, it should be equipped with bowls. For the mechanism to work, it is attached to the drive wheel with a chain drive.

In order for the tubers to enter the soil, a special seed tube is used, which must be placed at the bottom of the elevator and be pressed by the component that performs the rake.

An asterisk of 80 mm is introduced into the mechanism, which guarantees transmission through a chain. In this case, a star with a twice as large diameter - 160 mm is used on the walk-behind tractor.

To implement such a system, you can use a chain from a conventional bicycle or moped. With the help of such automation, the distance between future bushes of potatoes will be about a third of a meter.

For mini tractor

The minitractor is already a more powerful technique and it requires a more complex potato planter. However, you can still use plywood - it is much lighter than steel and even aluminum, does not require welding and allows you to simply fix all the fasteners.

Important! Do not overly complicate and weight the design. The most optimal should be the weight of the potato planter at which the minitractor will not experience pulling loads.

To create a device you need a jigsaw. With its help, all the required details are cut out of plywood (the optimum material thickness is 15 mm.) All components should be treated with drying oil. When the product is ready, it should be painted with waterproof and anti-corrosion paint; oil paint is suitable for these purposes.

The container (hopper) should be liberally glued from the inside with a rubber sheet or filled with silicone glue. This is done in order to avoid damage to the tubers due to friction on a wooden surface.

When the frame is ready, the holder for baking powder and the axle for the future wheels of the device should be fixed to it.

The axis is a steel pipe with thick walls. It should be remembered that it has a very large load. The wheels can be used off-the-shelf (commercially available for large trolleys and mini tractors) or made by yourself.

Oddly enough, but self-made wheels, as a rule, are more suitable and reliable. The thing is in the design - such wheels are cylindrical in shape and are made of steel (as a rule, steel sheets bent on special machines or at home are taken as a basis).

Holders for baking powder are special square rods that are assembled by welding from metal corners. Standard squares can undergo severe deformations, which is why the use of corners is the most rational.

Tractor planting devices for tractors are pipes with a diameter of 10 cm. The pipe must have thick walls, because otherwise there will be severe deformations in contact with the soil.

Also, to seal the furrows and create ridges, special discs may be required. For homemade planters adapted for a mini tractor, you can use the discs of the seeder СО-4,2. You should modify the disk a bit. The holes in the hubs should be widened, and the bearings should also be larger. Model 160503 should be used; these bearings are ideally suited for the intended purpose.

Consider some specifics of the operation of potato planters made by yourself. The mass of the device is quite large, because of this the center of mass of the device is shifted to the rear. In order for the center of mass to correspond as closely as possible to the geometric center of gravity, the front of the device must be equipped with special ballasts. Farmers who did not want due to such a “banal” reason to make the structure heavier once again complained about the loss of stability of the unit.

If you want to create a device in such a way that the process of planting potato tubers takes place with maximum comfort, the planter must be equipped with seats and special adapters for the walk-behind tractor. The seat should be assembled separately; there is no need to complicate the geometry of the main frame because of this. From the metal corners, the seat frame is separately assembled, then it is covered with canvases, foam rubber and leather substitutes.

The rules for operating homemade potato planters are no different from the rules for using factory models:

  • tubers must be filled in a potato container;
  • minitractor at a speed of 1 km / h. begins to move, the speed should not be changed, the movement should be as uniform as possible;
  • the seeder mechanism delivers one potato per unit time to the seed tube, and due to the uniformity of movement, the tubers are located in the area with equal distance;
  • with the help of special modified discs, powders of tubers are added and a special ridge is formed. Due to the angle that is formed between the discs and the furrow, falling asleep is carried out evenly.

Very often adjustment is required. For example, when backfilling of tubers is not carried out properly. Then it is necessary to adjust the angles of the disks and their distance from the hopper. By loosening the ladders and shifting the racks, you can adjust the degree of deepening of the discs. The angles of their position are regulated by changing the angle of inclination of the racks. With the help of 4 special pins, it is possible to adjust the position of the disks in the plane. Each disk can be shifted relative to another.

Another important problem is the traces of the wheels that remain on the site. Despite the fact that they were made of an optimal, cylindrical shape, under the pressure of the device’s own mass, the wheels can tamp the soil too much. To avoid such a nuisance, special paws (used in cultivation) can be fixed to the potato planter. They are able to loosen the earth after the planter has passed, eliminating wheel traces.

For farming potato planter for walk-behind tractor  - just an indispensable device. Its functions include not only planting potatoes, but also fertilizing the soil. With this equipment, you can evenly distribute planting material and facilitate agricultural work. You can save money on buying a potato planter for walk-behind tractor by making it yourself do-it-yourself sizes, drawings and pictures.

How to make a potato planter for walk-behind tractor on your own

We need to start manufacturing agricultural equipment in order to assemble the frame. For this, a steel channel of the eighth standard size is required. Since the potato planter is designed for small equipment, the bunker itself should be small, no more than twenty kilograms.

  1. Inside you need to install a vertical elevator. It should have bowls with a diameter of about eight cm. In order for the mechanism to work, it must be connected to the wheel, where the chain drive will work.
  2. In this mechanism, according to the drawings and pictures, there should be a pipe for withdrawing seeds, which is fixed under the elevator with a raking part.
  3. An asterisk with a diameter of eighteen cm should be connected by a chain with an asterisk of the walk-behind tractor, thus, a clutch transmission will be implemented.
  4. The transmission chain can be removed from the bike. Due to this, the distance between the holes with potatoes will be approximately 35 cm.

A potato planter can be used not only specifically for planting potatoes, it can easily be planted with other vegetables as well, most importantly, you need to choose the right adjustment. Before proceeding with the manufacture of a potato planter, a drawing and detailed measurements must be made. Whatever the mechanism is, it should always have its own frame, to which all subsequent details will be attached. In other words, the frame is the foundation.

Potato Planter Drawing

  1. In the case of a planter, part of the steel channel is taken as the frame, something like a pair of side members that are connected by pieces of steel is made from it.
  2. In front, a steel arch is joined by welding, as well as two rings that will serve as a lower link mount.
  3. Plate supports are attached to the sides of the frame, which will be the vas deferens.
  4. After all that has been done, it is worth fixing the frame with steel stripes.
  5. The arch can be strengthened with a kosynchastnoy lining of steel sheets. They should be cut in the shape of a triangle.
  6. The hopper clings to the bracket using bolts.

How to make a potato planter hopper

In order to make a container for bulk materials, you need plywood with a thickness of about 1 mm. You need to cut the details with a jigsaw according to drawings, pictures or ready-made templates. Then everything is processed with drying oil. An already finished product can be painted with paint, but it should be borne in mind that it must be waterproof. The inside of the hopper should be covered with rubber, this will help to avoid deformation of the tubers.

Potato Planter Drawing

Then the holder is bolted to the frame. The axis must consist of a pipe. When choosing, look so that it has thickened walls, since the frame will have to take considerable loads. When the mechanism is fully assembled, it will be necessary to brew the pins.

Comparative analysis of technology

Let us present a comparative analysis of these potato diggers in the form of a table.

Potato Planter Name Bowl volume, l Weight, kg Efficiency, g / hour Price, thousand rubles
KS-1A 34 33 0,2-0,25 14500 — 15500
41 44 0,25 11500 — 12000
Small-sized 34 33 0,2 16000 — 15000
KS-1 25 30 0,2 12000 — 14000
For Neva walk-behind tractor 25 30 0,2 10000 — 11000

Having examined these units in more detail, it becomes clear that the price depends on some factors: the volume of the bowl, the ability to auto-cut with certain walk-behind tractors, and dimensions.

Bowl volume

The larger the potato planter itself, the larger the bowl it has. Of course, this is done for convenience, since you do not have to stop working often to reload your equipment. But if you have a small area, then a bowl of 30l is enough.

Clutch and the ability to work with many walk-behind tractors

The clutch this device has with large motor blocks, the more expensive its cost. But today there are all possible additional adapters that make it possible to adjust any model you like to your walk-behind tractor.

Dimensions

Let's not forget that large potato planters also have a rather high weight. And this brings additional inconvenience when transporting it. Small cars make it possible to easily bring such a device to the country even in a passenger car.

Unless of course you have your own plot and private house, then the acquisition of massive and more powerful equipment will not cause additional inconvenience.

What technique you need to acquire is up to you to decide. But, before making such a big purchase, erect all the pros and cons that will arise after its acquisition.
